Sangeeth Nataka Academy award winner Indira Parthasarathy will be conducting a weeklong drama workshop in April. It will be once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from an illustrious dramatist of Indira Parthasarathy's magnitude. Besides being a Tamil professor and a dramatist he has won awards for his novels and plays. He was the Founder-Director of the School of Performing Arts, Pondicherry University.
The workshop details are as follows:

Prof. Parthasarathy intends to offer this workshop using a script-oriented approach with the following broad outline:
- Introductory lecture followed by play reading.
- Reading a play for your own pleasure, reading it to probe the characters, to contemplate on the plot in relation to the characters etc
- Reviewing and rewriting the scenes from the participants' perspectives
- Organizing the students into small groups to discuss different situations
- Each group bringing its unified outlook on the situation they studied
- Discussion by the whole group.
- Importance of scenery, properties, costumes, blocking etc.
- Converting a shortstory into a play
- Adaptations from English to Tamil
We will be making use of his plays 'Aurangzeb' 'Iruthi Attam'.
Registration Fees:
The materials fee for the workshop is $15 per day or $50 for the entire workshop.
Seats are limited. So, please RSVP to reserve your place by April 2nd.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion. We are working with University of California, Berkeley, Tamil Chair to get their endorsement of this program and possibly get a certificate from the university.
